Obtainment
An early quest awards sanity potions, and the potions NPC in the starter village sells them. [2]
Recovery
Sanity potions provide another way to restore sanity. [3]
Existing campfires restore sanity. The runner outpost also restores sanity and functions like a campfire. [4]
Qualifying monster kills restore 2 Sanity. Certain consumables and abilities also restore it. Insanity resistance slows the drain, and owning any Class permanently reduces the drain by 20%. [5]
Behavior
Location
Some areas drain Sanity only at night; others drain it continuously. Settlements and safe ground never drain it. Safe pockets within draining areas restore Sanity normally. [7]
Requirements
Entering an area before meeting its quest-progress requirement causes 15× Sanity drain, taking about 8 seconds from full Sanity to death. Entry remains possible. [8]
Effects
Sanity drain was reduced from 0.8 per second to 0.5 per second. [9]
